My Children's Day

In Korea, May 5th (yes, Cinco de Mayo) is Children's Day. I knew about this holiday prior to coming to Korea but I didn't know it we get the day off. So instead of going to Seoul or spending the whole day home being a bum, I decided to take the opportunity to go to help out at an orphanage with the EM at my church. I thought it would be nice to do something somewhat decent for the kids of Korea instead of wasting a day probably doing something unproductive. Even though I've never been to an orphanage before, the one I went to was nothing like I'd imagine it would be. It was a lot better. It made me happy to know that these orphanes I had to kind of nice. Well anyway, I was hoping to help out but ended up just having fun. Their were so many volunteers already that all we did was play with the kids.

The opening ceremony. It was long.
Some people or company or something like that donated about 8-10 new bicycles to the orphanage.

The Taekwondo show.

This was pretty cool. He jumped into the air and came down smashing.

They did all sorts of arcobatic moves and even did some WWE style performances too.

Then it was activity time.

They played mini-games.

They had face painting.

Cotton candy machine.

After lunch they had bigger activities and games.

The last event of the day was a relay race around this big field. The kids were running their little legs off and seemed like they were having fun.

He got cocky and slowed down for the kid behind him. Haha look at that "I'm the best" grin on his face.

Besides sneezing every 5 minutes because of allergies, all in all it was a nice day. It made me happy to see that so many people were helping and caring for these kids. I met a couple of them and I tried to be encouraging to them. Hopefully it was a great day for them.

Below are some video clips of the Taekwondo performance. They were pretty good.

Until next time, hope everyone back home is doing well.
